Description
Gno.land is a Layer-1 smart contract platform developed by NewTendermint that is built around Gno, an interpreted and fully deterministic variation of the Go programming language. Initial development began in 2021 under Jae Kwon, co-founder of Cosmos and Tendermint. On Gno.land, smart contracts (called realms) are uploaded on-chain by publishing their full source code, so any realm can be inspected, verified, or forked into an improved version. A package system allows developers to publish reusable, on-chain code libraries, positioning Gno.land as a transparent, auditable alternative to typical bytecode-only smart contract platforms. The network runs on Tendermint2, an updated iteration of the Tendermint BFT consensus algorithm originally designed by Jae Kwon. GNOT is the network's native token used to pay gas for storage deposits, contract execution, and cross-chain interactions. GNOT has a fixed total and max supply of 1,333,000,000 tokens. Ecosystem tools include the Adena wallet, the GnoSwap decentralized exchange, the Gnoscan block explorer, the Gno Playground browser IDE, and Boards, an on-chain social forum. A public auction for GNOT ran from July 20 to July 27, 2026, structured as a uniform-price (English) auction with a starting price of $0.0645. The auction was run on Sonar, a compliance platform operated by Echo.
